SEAFARING CEREMONY // BURGANDY LOVE BOAT

Anchors up and away. This Yacht Wedding was a dream come true, despite the rain and all the trouble which tried to come our way. It is our honor and pleasure to provide the service which brings dreams into reality. This seafaring wedding was to take place on a family yacht – um, dreamy! The only tricky part was – setting up the Alter which had to be securely attached to the boat without looking make-shift, nor obstructing the path of the bride and groom, making the ceremony look flat and boxed-in. We got by with a little help from our (handy) friends in designing a suitable structure to hold the Altar flower arrangements. Phew!

The Bride wanted to go with a Burgundy and Blush Wedding Theme. Winnie is a very modern lady, wishing to both maintain some tradition by adding burgundy and pinks to her chosen white gown, which if you didn’t know – in Chinese custom is the color of mourning. To escape any morbid associations with white, while maintaining the classical feel and purity of it from the Western perspective, we married it to the traditional red in a Burgundy hue.

Winnie wanted for the bouquet to be dynamic and free-moving; a combination of elegant with a little green country kind of feel. We chose: Burgundy Peonies from Chile, Burgundy Dahlias, Pink Garden Roses, Carnations, White Hydrangeas, Wax Flowers, Silver Dollar Leaves, and Myrtle Leaves which we picked knowing how lovely it would sound ruffling softly in the summer breeze. These are the fine little details that create an experience, apart from a one-dimensional look, they hold true embedded feelings. The bridesmaid’s bouquets were fashioned with similar flowers, though built into round shapes, separate from the Bride’s tear-shaped bouquet.

Taking the temperamental Vancouver rain into consideration, we worked to be prepared for whatever may come our way. A little summer rain did sprinkle and had brought the guests to cozy up inside to spending time enjoying company together. We were ready for this on our end by choosing flowers which we would sustain the weather, perhaps not forever and ever, but at least for the course of the day!

We took pleasure in decorating the wedding cake, a delicious Classic Vanilla Bean Frosted Genoise which we adorned with Burgundy Dahlias, Carnations, and Winterberries.

For the reception tables, we chose sleek white vases to hold the flowers in balance; a gentle mix of the White Hydrangeas, Carnations, and Dahlias, with some Dollar Leaf and Myrtle Leaf, along whit fairy-lights to create a warm, elegant and cozy glow.

We loved preparing for this unique wedding, and walked away from it with new knowledge and skills, knowing more about sailing, carpentry, and some knot-tying techniques which just may come in handy one day. Congratulations to the couple for tying their knots, and exchanging vows in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean!
